I {heart} MORNINGS

Have I ever mentioned that my favorite time of day is early morning. NOT the waking up early part {I wake up every morning at 4:35} but the part after you wake up. :) Every morning my alarm goes off and me and my sleepy Prince Charming roll out of bed. This is a quiet process, usually with very few words spoken as we both walk in zombie-like fashion towards our destinations-his being the bathroom and mine being the kitchen. Every morning I fix 4 sandwiches to accompany whatever leftovers from the night before for Jason's lunch. He eats like a horse and I love him for it. Usually by the time the coffee is brewing I start to wake up. As I pour coffee with Irish creamer into Jason's travel mug and thermos, I usually think to myself "man, this coffee smells gooooooood!" and I pull out a cute mug and have myself a cup. I then turn on the kettle for the oatmeal. Jason eats 2 packets of oatmeal everyday for breakfast. His favorite is the apples and cinnamon {in case you were wondering}.

We sit at the kitchen table together as he eats his oatmeal and I sip my coffee. He checks out the news on MSN to find out what the Dow Jones is doing. This morning it was up a whopping 200 points which is good {I know you were wondering that too!} We talk about little things like what songs to put on his MP3 or our plans to pay off debt. All the while he is looking irresistible in his thermals and carharts, and I know I am the luckiest girl in the world. I also like that he knows that he is not the only one in our home waking up this early. I guess it is a small way for me to show my support of him working so darn hard for us.

Christian usually awakes shortly after his daddy heads off to work. We sit in the chair in the living room with a blanket. He eats a bottle and we snuggle. This is my FAVORITE part! We play and smile and laugh and it is awesome. He will sit on my lap as long as I want him to. He loves his mama and I love him. His smile lights my world.

I love how the early morning feels so fresh and quiet. I love how the light slowly fills my home as the sun begins to rise. Most of all I love those special moments I get to share with my guys when it seems like the rest of the world is still asleep.

What's Going On?

It has been a while since I posted anything. I have attempted to post several times but those "little things" (that matter more than sitting in front of my computer) are filling my days (and nights). So, here is an update on what has been going on in our homestead:

* Christian had an eye appointment at OHSU last Friday so we packed up Thursday morning and ventured off to stay a few days with Shela, Dave and the Kids in Vancouver. The trip was most pleasant. Christian was an extra-good boy, despite being strapped in his car seat for 3 hours. It felt good to get on the road and just listen to my music and enjoy the scenery.

* The appointment was a follow-up to see how Christian's eyes were developing. The doctor was very pleased (me too) to see that Christian's eyes looked fantastic. He said that you would not be able to tell that Christian was a preemie by looking at his eyes. He will go back once a year until he is 3 for annual check-ups.

* We were able to stop by the DNCC and visit with Christian's nurse, Cynthia. He gave her a gift and some heart shaped suckers (but not before bopping me in the face a few times with them). It is always a special occasion when we get to see her. She was with us from the very first day til the day we went home. She means a lot to our family.

*Christian enjoyed time with his cousins and played, played, played. He discovered chicken nuggets and guacamole. We went to a soccer game where he cheered for his uncle Dave and aunt Shela.

* He also received a "proper" haircut by his aunt Shela. He was not liking the clippers at all.

Not to worry. He survived and made a full recovery from this traumatic experience. :)

* We came home on Monday and waited for Jason to get home. 5 days is a long time without seeing daddy!

* Christian is still just under 17 pounds. Such a big boy now! He practically runs behind his lion walker. Won't be long til he is bouncing off our walls.

* I have been doing my best to get organized. I started with my kitchen cabinets. I have organized my coffee cup cabinet so far. Yes, I am moving slowly. I did purchase new dishes that I love so I boxed up all my hodge-podge, miss-matched stuff to get rid of.

*Went to a really cool store in Portland called Home Goods. It is over by IKEA. I bought an awesome art piece for my house there. I will post a pic when I hang it up.

* I was introduced to Stumptown Coffee in Portland where it was rumored to have the best coffee. I have to admit, IT IS AWESOME! So good that we are only drinking Stumptown coffee on Sundays so that Jason and I can enjoy it together. It is Kirkland coffee during the rest of the week.

*We are learning sign language in the Lee house. So far we are working on: more, food, milk, water, ball, kitty, want, puppy, mama, daddy, grandpa, grandma, bird, sleepy, and all done. :) Christian is really grasping the sign for more. We have been working on that one for quite awhile.

* Jason is still working in Arlington on the windmills. He has Sundays off. This Sunday we are going to Kennewick to watch "My Bloody Valentine" in 3D with his parents. Looks scary! I love it!

That's all folks!

My son....the window-licker

I took these pictures the other night because Jason came home from work and I noticed that he and Christian both had rosy cheeks. I can't believe how quickly my baby is turning into a little boy.

The other day Christian spent some time looking out (and licking) the windows in the kitchen.

I LOVE this picture of him. It is the sweetest. I want to know what he is thinking.

I pray that I never take a day for granted. For these days pass far too quickly. I want to cherish each and every moment.

Sweet Sunset, How do I love thee????

THIS was the sunset tonight. How cool is this?

Thank you Sunset for making me happier than I already was.

New Year, New Look, New Title, New Word

A few friends of mine have been choosing a word for the new year. The word is supposed to serve as a reminder of what they wish upon for the new year or have special meaning, whatever it may be. This is such a great idea that of course I had to jump on the band wagon. Now, I have pondered over what word to choose. I am not having a problem finding a word, just deciding which one would best serve as "my word" for this new year.

Some words I have considered: FAITH, GIVE, CONTENT, CHERISH, FOCUS, MOTIVATE, COMFORT, STUDENT, FABULOUS, BEAUTY, RE-NEW, SPIRIT......the list could go on. I have chose my word and I think it is the perfect fit for me in this new year.

My WORD for 2009 is: BELIEVE
BELIEVE in God's promise.
BELIEVE in myself.
BELIEVE in the beauty of all things and all people.
BELIEVE that all things happen according to God's plan.
BELIEVE in the Love of my Husband and Child.
BELIEVE that I can accomplish goals.

I also decided to change the layout of my blog and choose a new title. I like it!
On another note......
Jason, Christian and I will be walking in the March for Babies event this year for the March of Dimes. The event takes place in late April in Hermiston at Makenzie park. We are really looking forward to this event. The March of Dimes did so much for us while we were at OHSU with Christian. Their medical research has helped save the lives of premature babies and it is their goal to be able to, one day, prevent prematurity. They helped to save Christian's life.

Jason and I were overwhelmed by the moral support given to us by the March of Dimes while Christian was in the hospital. I will never forget the special attention they gave to me. They helped me to feel more like a "mom." It sounds strange but when you are not able to hold your newborn baby and there are others taking care of him (God bless those Nurses and Doctors at OHSU), instead of you, it is a very odd feeling. There was a special woman named Jennifer who was from the March of Dimes. She came and found me sitting beside Christian's issolette and handed me a gift bag. Inside it were a few books. One filled with medical terms and their definitions, words commonly used in the NICU that were so foreign to me. It wasn't long before I became an expert on medical terminology in the NICU. :) The bag also contained things like a memory book to record significant events as they happened. And believe me, when you have a 1 pound, 12 ounce baby, EVERY event is significant! They had a "Daddy's Kit" for Jason with a disposable camera, book to read to Christian, toothbrush, etc.
Jennifer was always checking in on us and seeing how we were doing. Shortly after Christian was born the March of Dimes hosted a baby shower on National Preemie Awareness Day and I was invited. People and businesses from all over had donated items for Christian and each mom was presented with a gift bag. They served lunch and had 8x10 pictures of our babies with balloons on the table. It was a really great time for me to sit and listen to other mother's of preemies and hear their success stories.
Jennifer set up a scrap booking day every week for the parents who had babies in the NICU. I looked forward to those days and was able to get a pretty good scrapbook started. She brought all the supplies with her each week. There were several times they brought dinner into the family waiting room. They would have volunteers take regular pictures (with our permission) of Christian and they would print them out and leave them at his bedside for me. Little things like that. Little things that let me know they cared. And they do.

I can't say enough about the March of Dimes. Our family is eternally thankful for all they do for premature babies and their constant research to help prevent causes of prematurity.

Soooo......I BELIEVE that we can meet our goal of raising $500 dollars for the March of Dimes this year. And I look forward to the day in April when we walk, with our son, in the March of Babies event.
Christian Lee 3 days old 1 lb., 12 ounces, 13 inches

Christian 14 months, 26.5 inches, 16+ pounds

Thank you March of Dimes!

If you would like to help us reach our goal please see the post below this one.
